To create a tropical environment in Colorado’s climate, heated rocks and hidden steam pipes were incorporated into the design. It’s just outside the downtown loop (west on 15th Street, right past the confluence of the South Platte River and Cherry Creek).
Peeling carriages, corroding cabooses, and classic cycles litter the exterior of this odd museum that resembles an abandoned auto yard. Inside not-quite-thought-out exhibit rooms are an 1898 Renault coupe, Teddy Roosevelt’s tour car, Aly Khan’s Rolls, and a Big Boy steam locomotive, among other collectibles. There’s also a room dedicated to 18th-century military uniforms. Anyone who grew up on model cars or Lionel trains will wander this eccentric museum in a happy daze. COST: $6.
